Do come along to the Coffee Morning in aid of Church funds this coming Saturday (22nd April) from 10.30am – 12 noon at the Old Hall, Wing.  There will be a Raffle, bring and buy stall and hopefully a few plants for sale plus a craft stall. Entry £1.  All are welcome.

Peter Michael Biggs of Wing, passed away peacefully on 5th April 2023, aged 80 years. Beloved husband of Jean, loving father to Charlotte and a much loved grandpa. His funeral service will be held at Wing Parish Church on Wednesday 26th April 2023 at 11am. Family flowers only but donations, if desired, to the Fire Fighters Charity. From The Lord Lieutenant Dr Sarah Furness, information on Rutland’s celebrations to mark the  coronation.  Please note the children’s fancy dress, party in the park and car boot as well as the church service at All Saints, Oakham.  Information on celebrations in Wing see below!

The Coronation is only a month away! Excitement is building.  I hope that locally communities will be planning to hang out flags and bunting over the long weekend and hold celebrations. I wanted to make sure you and your organisation are well informed about our Rutland plans. I would encourage your organisation to join in as much as possible.

On May 6^th the Coronation day itself I am sure we will all be glued to the live coverage on the television. I expect many pubs will also be screening the processions and service live.

On Sunday May 7^th there will be many Coronation church services across the county as there were for the Platinum Jubilee. In our county town, Oakham, at All Saints we will be holding the principal service. Following the service will be a short parade. I hope many people will take part in that.  I particularly hope that the military, veteran groups, and  youth groups such as the  Cubs, Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Cadets, etc will all attend the service and parade afterwards, The Mayor of Oakham, Sally-Anne Wadsworth, is organising a procession of children dressed up as Kings and Queens to be a part of the parade. We would be pleased if children from beyond Oakham would like to dress up and take part. There will also be the military bikers and possibly a vintage car rally taking part so it should be a spectacle. The parade will go from All Saints to Cutts Close where Oakham Town Council have organised a ‘Party in the Park’. Here there will be music, children’s entertainment and food stalls. It will be an opportunity for people to get together and enjoy being part of the community. Street parties are also encouraged elsewhere in the county as Sunday is the day designated for the ‘Big Lunch’ an opportunity to get together with neighbours, celebrate communities and feast! It will again be an opportunity to bring out the flags and bunting.

On Monday May 8^th the King has asked that people get together to ‘help out’. I wanted us to hold an event that might appeal to all ages and be easily accessible. We are going to hold a ‘Coronation Clear Out to Help Out Car Boot and Table Top Sale’ at the Rutland Showground.   The Rutland Agricultural Society are donating the entrance fee to the three chosen charities, Rutland Foodbank, Citizens Advice and ‘For Rutland’ . (These benefit those in real need across our county.) The sale is being run by Tom Munby who has run such sales before. I hope that people can come and  bag some real bargains or sell good quality items from their car boots or their own table tops and make money for themselves or if they wish give the money raised to charity. I also hope that those who do not wish to sell in person will donate good quality items that others can sell for the chosen charities. Oakham Town Council will receive such items at their offices in Long Row in office hours in the working week preceding the Coronation. Recognised voluntary groups can have a free pitch to sell to raise money for their own good cause or for the three chosen ones. They are also encouraged to have displays explaining what they do. My hope is that people can come along, have fun, food, drink, entertainment and increase their  awareness of volunteering in Rutland whilst enjoying picking up bargains and raising money for good causes.

I think the Coronation weekend will be tremendous fun, a chance for communities to enjoy getting together and a way of high lighting volunteering.
