Blue Stockings by Jessica Swale

Stamford Shoestring’s next production is:

BLUE STOCKINGS

by JESSICA SWALE

A pre-Christmas treat!

Don’t miss this chance to see what promises to be a highly entertaining and thought- provoking evening.

Shakespeare’s Globe was packed to the rafters when Blue Stockings was first produced in 2013. Currently it is performed by theatre companies up and down the country and is hugely popular.

Girton College, Cambridge, was one of the first colleges in Britain to admit women.

The year is 1896 and Jessica Swale’s lively play tells the story of Tess Moffat and a group of ‘first-years’ determined to win the right to a degree. Their story is followed over one tumultuous year as they encounter the many hurdles in their way – the class divide, misogyny, and the university opposition – not to mention the distractions of love. Finally, the whole issue is put to the vote…

Love or knowledge: which would you choose?

In performance at the Stamford Arts Centre Theatre from:

Tues 3-Sat 7 December 7.45pm – tickets £10 (£8)

Box Office: 01780 763203 www.stamfordartscentre.com (An amateur production by arrangement with Nick Hern Books)

The Corporate Plan is to be considered by scrutiny on 7 November (Thursday 7th November). Thieves about in Wing!

Last night a lovely Land Rover Defender 90 had it’s bonnet, doors and other item removed and stolen right outside houses on Top Street.

You would think the noise created would have disturbed people in their sleep, but it seems not. These vehicles are particularly prone to this type of theft. There are additional security measures you can take and are well worth the effort. Land Rover forums on the web have loads of advice about this.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police on 101 or online at visit https://www.leics.police.uk/ Click on “REPORT”.
