Rutland Foodbank Reverse Advent Calendar 2023

Rutland Foodbank has launched it’s reverse advent calendar for 2023.

Wing residents have generously supported the Rutland Foodbank for several years.  Attached is a calendar setting out the items they need.  If you can give one item that would be great – if you are able to give more, or even donate a whole advent calendar then that would be amazing.

The collection point in Wing are the boxes in the Church porch.

Please ensure you donate prior to 1 December to ensure we can get all the items to the foodbank by their deadline to enable distribution before Christmas. Many thanks.

Wing draws Wing Open Viewing

‘Can’t draw, can’t paint, haven’t done art since school’

These were things a group of novice artists said on their first evening at Wing draws Wing in October 2022.

They had answered an invitation from Ian Newsham, a long standing resident of Wing and recently retired Associate Professor of Drawing at De Montfort University.  He was inspired to do a community project where the people of Wing were both the artists and models.

He was confident he could get the group to draw and paint and in doing so tell the story of the people in Wing. So every week they gathered and tried to learn how to really look, draw in proportion and perspective and along the way they had fun and learnt something as a group.

This Wing draws Wing exhibition is the result of their labours both behind and in front of the easel.

Harvest in Wing

On a beautiful, warm autumn afternoon, over 75 villagers and friends gathered in Jeffy and David’s barn for a wonderful harvest lunch in aid of church funds.  It was a very happy community event as the photos show. Many thanks to everyone who came along, to Jeffy and David for hosting and to Alice and team for working hard to organise the event and provide delicious food and drinks for all to enjoy.

Later the same afternoon Graham Madgwick led the Harvest service of celebration in the church with David Hill playing the organ. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers and produce. If you missed them, do pop into the church to see the flower displays from our team of talented arrangers.

The generous collection from the service together with the proceeds from a raffle raised £464.06 for the orphanage in Malawi that Wing has been supporting for over 20 years.  The charity that runs the orphanage and neighbouring hospital is Medic Malawi (https://www.medicmalawi.org/news/)

Our next event will be the Christmas coffee morning on Saturday 25 November 2023 at the home of Rosemary and Gerald Clifton in Middle Street.  All are welcome!

Please see below dates when the mobile vaccination van is around in the County.  It is providing both COVID and flu vaccinations on a walk in basis.  Thankyou to Joanne Beaver for providing the information.
