About 10am on the day of the Coronation you may have heard the bells in our church “Ring for the King”. Across the country approximately 38,000 bells were rung in celebration on the day of the Coronation and on days leading up to and following it. The photographs show the team who rang at Wing; some already having rung at other churches to make up numbers – North Luffenham, Tinwell, Hambleton and Ketton. Wing has five bells which are rung regularly for services, celebrations, funerals and weddings. Practices are held on Tuesday evenings either in Wing or another village. However, Wing does not have sufficient resident ringers and relies on ringers from other villages to make up numbers. Bell ringing is a skill requiring team work and practice, which also brings a lot of fun and enjoyment once mastered. If you would like to know more, learn to ring, have a try, assist with the maintenance of the Wing bells or return to ringing please get in touch with the Tower Captain Jane Peach.
