Wing Auction Of Promises

The Auction of promises concluded on Sunday evening with one special late arrival promise ending on Monday evening โ€“ The Red Arrows visit.

The results of the funds raised through the call my bluff wine tasting ticket sales, auction of promises and the Red Arrows bid together totalled an amazingโ€ฆ.

Total ยฃ4881.25!!!!

Well done to everyone involved and a huge thank you to both the promisers and the bidders.

This massive amount will provide nearly a third of the cost of rebuilding the wall.

There is more fund raising still needed and Paul Kitson will be carrying out a sponsored walk, endeavouring to complete the โ€˜Rutland Roundโ€™ non-stop on 26/27th April โ€“ a 62 mile walk! All proceeds will go to the Wall Fund โ€“ please sponsor him if you can. More details will be posted on NextDoor Wing.

Please pledge Paul a failed bid, preferably the largest one!. Paul says โ€œYou would have spent the money anyway, so spend on my walk!โ€ Please send your pledges to this account / paul.kitson@yahoo.co.uk. If anyone would like to join him on the walk he would be pleased to have you come along. If you wish to make a donation to the Wall Fund Raising, you can either give the money to Helen Cullen (and if you compete a gift aid form it will be worth 25% more) or use the Wing PCC Just Giving site: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/wingchurchardwall?utm_term=ggGQaKyEy

Thank you all so much โ€“ what a wonderful community effort!

Best Wishes, The Wing Covid19 Team.

Christmas Cheer In Wing

Christmas Cheer in Wing

As you will recall, in May the Covid19 Group arranged VE day celebrations to bring the community together.  It was a great success and as Christmas approaches, we are announcing another event.

Wing โ€˜Christmas Cheerโ€™ on 23rd December 2020

between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.

This will be an opportunity for everyone to have festive drinks (or non-alcoholic and childrenโ€™s alternatives) and a mince pie and other festive fayre at various locations around the village. Santa will make an appearance, Christmas Carols, socially distanced, will be sung in the churchyard alongside opportunities to view the Christmas Lights and Advent Windows throughout the village.

We are delighted that so many people are already displaying festive lights and Advent windows around the village. The more the merrier โ€“ thank you! Do let us know if you are willing to participate and we will create a map to guide you around the village.  Please let us know by Saturday 5/12/2020

Mindful of the Covid19 rules, we would like to set out an overall structure for the evening to observe rules and keep everyone safe.

The route will start at the Village Hall where a map of the Advent Windows can be collected, along with a drink and other goodies. The route will then take you past the Church where carols will be sung and then round the village to see the Advent Windows and Christmas Lights.  At various locations there will be additional festive drinks and fayre, before finishing with Santa at Townsend Barn and, no doubt, further drinks!

To ensure social distancing, we would ask that you let us know of your interest to attend so we can allocate a timeslot for your household to begin your evening. Obviously, we have to avoid large numbers assembling in any location in order to comply with the regulations and keep everyone safe.

Please respond Email: wingrutlandpc@gmail.com to register your interest.

Please let us know and we will bring a festive drink and fayre to you at home during the day.  Please phone one of the wellbeing volunteers (see below) if you would like a home visit or please reply to this email.

This event is hopefully an opportunity to raise a little bit of money. Once any costs are covered, all monies raised will go to the Church. Any donations will be gratefully received and there will be collection buckets at the various drink / food tables around the village.

The Grand Christmas Tree Lights will be turned on at 6:00 pm on Wednesday 2nd December.

All are welcome to come and see the lights being turned on;- PLEASE maintain social distancing and the household rules for tier 2.

In what has been a difficult year, we hope you will feel able to join in the festivities to provide much-needed cheer and an opportunity for the village to celebrate together.

Happy Christmas to you all

Wing Harvest Scarecrow Trail Was Last Weekend

A big thank you to all those who made the amazingly creative scarecrows, which were very much enjoyed by everyone who followed the harvest trail.  Look out for an article in the Rutland Mercury this weekend and we hope to do it all again at some point in the future.
For those who missed the event or would like to enjoy them again, here are all the scarecrows.  I’ll be in touch shortly with the children who entered the quiz.

Click on the photos to see them in all their glory.
