Ploughing on despite the rain

Horatio & Gautam from our lovely neighbours at the Ahimsa Dairy Foundation enjoyed giving ox-cart rides to those who braved the elements at the Wing Festival. We met some lovely people and despite getting thoroughly soaked had a great day. Thanks very much to all of the organisers for their hard work and fortitude.

Wing Fest Dog Show

Despite the driving rain, the Wing Fest Dog Show went ahead on Sunday.
Fiona Senior‘s  lovely Hungarian Vizsla ‘ Stirling’ won the Best in Show, the ‘Sophie Trophy.’
Fiona lives in London and was visiting her mother in Uppingham when she decided to brave the heavy rain to enter the show, winning the Trophy donated by Wing Resident, Mrs Anne Thomson, in memory of her Airedale ‘ Sophie’.
The trophy was presented by Judge, Mr Philip Sutcliffe from Wellingborough and District Canine Society and the Birmingham Fox Terrier Club, who cheerfully battled the driving rain to ensure no class was cancelled.  Philip, we are most grateful.

Thanks to the generous sponsors, Fish4 Dogs, pet food, we were able to donate £180 to Dogs Trust.
Thanks to all our hardy dog owners who came to support the event, and the soaking helpers, who kept going to the end!

Wing Summer Fest 2018

Despite the, not entirely unexpected, unkind Bank Holiday weather the Wing Summer Fest was a success, thanks to the army of volunteers that moved the event under cover at the last minute using the Village Hall, the Church, Townsend House and other covered areas. The dog show went ahead undaunted by the rain and was enjoyed by the suitably skinned canine participants.

A special thanks to Sally Cox, Sarah O’Boyle and Lindsay O’Conner who bore the brunt of the organizing ( and reorganizing! ) load but thanks to everyone who made it possible.

Joy Everitt

Hello

I am chairman of Arts for Rutland and wondered if you would be kind enough to pass this opportunity onto your contacts.

Calling all actors and crew! The Rutlanders Return is a newly written play about life in rural Rutland after the end of WW1. It is being professionally directed by Martin Berry, musically directed by Matt Marks and stage managed by Graham Ellstone. The play is being written by Andy Barrett from Nottingham and we need cast and crew.
The project has been funded by the Heritage Lottery, Oakham Town Council, Uppingham Town Council and Rutland WW1 committee. The material for the script has been researched by a group of local historians and is being transformed into a dramatic performance with music.
A great chance to learn from the professional team. Please come along to Oakham Scout Hut Grampian way Oakham on September 2nd at 11.30am or see A4R.org.uk for more information. Performances 25th to 28th October in Oakham, Uppingham, Kendrew Barracks, Cottesmore and South Luffenham.

Accommodation wanted August 18th – 26th for Movement Workshop

Stewart Hamblin, who many of you know, is running an International Movement Workshop August 19 – 26 in Wing Village Hall and he will be using the Hall for the whole week. There are people coming from Europe and the USA such is his skill. The people are a mixture of therapists and patients. The participants have arranged their own accommodation around the county but one therapist, from Germany, has failed to find anywhere for her and her partner. She has asked Stewart if anyone has a room available during that week. They just need somewhere to sleep and are not expecting any meals.

If you can help contact Stewart at stewartwhamblin@gmail.com
