Wing WI

Wing WI recently celebrated their 90th birthday with a lunch at Normanton Hall Hotel. The occasion was enjoyed by all members along with Jan Holawell  who had moved earlier this year.
In October an oak tree was planted in the playing fields to commemorate the 100th anniversary of establishing the National WI in the UK. Special thanks go to Gloria Whight for raising the money to pay for the ‘mighty’ oak.
The members had a lovely meeting in November when Marianne Parry told the history of candle making and her way of making candles. This meeting was also the AGM, the president – Lilian Clark – gave her annual report and the secretary – Jane Gilmour a resume of the past year’s activities.
The December meeting will be on at 2.30pm on Dec 8th when the speaker will be talking about Magic and this will combine with the Christmas party – all are welcome.
If you have ever thought you would like to give the WI a try come along to our meetings, the 2nd Thursday of the month.

Reminder: PLANTING OF WI OAK TREE: THURSDAY 20 OCTOBER

Reminder: The WI are planting an Oak Tree commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the founding of Wing Women’s Institute (WI). The money for the tree was raised by members, led by Gloria Whight.

It would be lovely to have as many members as possible and guests are also welcome.

2.3O PM ON THE RECREATION FIELD followed by a cup of tea and slice of cake in the Village Hall.

PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO COME IF YOU CAN ON THURSDAY.

WING WI  JULY MEETING:  TRADITIONAL CORN DOLLIES

Thursday 14 July, 7.30 pm Wing Village Hall

The making of corn dollies is believed to date back thousands of years but our speaker this month will bring us up to date with this ancient tradition.
The competition this month is “Questions for Gardeners’ Question Time” so make a note of your problem and it is hoped all your worries will be sorted out at the September “Gardeners’ Question Time” meeting (8 Sept) organised by Pat Simmonds.

Following the talk in June on the National Trust property Stoneywell Cottage which was much enjoyed by members and visitors, a visit to the Cottage is being organised and details will be available at the July meeting.  Anyone who is interested but cannot be at the meeting please give your name to Jane Gilmore (number below) beforehand.

Please note that there is no meeting in August

Visitors are always welcome and if anyone would like more details about the meeting or about the WI please contact Jane Gilmore, WI Secretary, 01572 737324
