Northern Aid Convoy Leaves Soon

There is a vehicle going up to the Northern Parts of the Kingdom on Monday 12 September. The objective is to deliver Frying oil to Richard Hogarth for his new venture selling chips to the radio activity monitors that wander the beach. However there is room on board to take any aid supplies the Village might want to send up. It is almost winter there at the moment and it is to be expected they will probably be cut off soon by either Snow, Ice or Flood water. If you have finished knitting Balaclavas and Mittens I would be delighted to take them up as extra baggage. I regret it is not a viable proposition to take up firewood and in any case they have told me they quite enjoy scraping the rime off the inside of their windows when it does get cool. So, anything you want delivered to the Hogarth’s please contact Paul Brewer.

Wheatsheaf Latest

As a regular attendee to the Wheatsheaf Pub in Edith Weston I, like many others, was horrified to discover it had been subject to a fire in the living quarters.

Many of us have been eyeing the damaged building and wondering when we were going to get back to Steak Nights again. Several people have remarked how they miss not only the beer and friendly atmosphere but the original Wallpaper.

Today (Wednesday 24 August) your correspondent met John the landlord when he was in Wing tending his sheep. He tells me that the delay, apart from the usual formalities, has been complicated by the discovery of Asbestos in the roof. That has just been cleared and work will be starting again in earnest. John’s latest information is that the Pub MAY be re opening in November of this year. It is hoped that more towards the time an announcement will be made in the press and Parish Magazine.

I forgot to ask what started the fire in the first place so we will have to suffice with the rumour that a tumble drier was at fault. More on this if I see John again.

More Winners from Wing

The winners of the South Luffenham Dominos league 2015 – 2016 were the Wing players from The Kings Arms.

They are pictured below resting after a season of hectic Tile shuffling and of course the labour of carrying away all their prizes.

They did offer to buy other members of the village a drink to celebrate but apparently the invitation to their celebratory bash was mislaid on the way to the parish Magazine Editor.

Domino League Winners

From left to right and in no order of importance:-

Trevor Ashby, David Rudkin, Robert Birch(Captain), Jason Smith, David Farr,

James Goss(Landlord), Andrew Morriss.

I am sure we are all proud of our lads holding up the name of Wing as unbeatables and wish them luck for the following season.
