Piano and Organ Recital St Peter’s Church, Barrowden

Piano and Organ Recital

St Peter’s Church, Barrowden

Saturday 28 October 2017

12:30 – 14:00

This is a “not to be missed” opportunity to enjoy the playing of two of Barrowden’s truly accomplished musicians, John Comber and Jean Swinbanks.  They have put together a fascinatingly eclectic range of music for both organ and piano.

The recital will showcase pieces as contrasting as Elgar and Gospel, Bach and Jazz – and you’d have to travel a long way to find such a diverse mix!

The recital starts at 12:30 with an interval at 13:15 when light refreshments will be served – wine, soft drinks, coffee and small eats. We plan to finish at about 14:00

Seating for the first 40 who apply will be in the nave, and after that it is free seating, a bit like flying with Easyjet but more fun!

Amazingly there is no charge for the recital.  However, there will be a collection at the end with all donations going towards the cost of the new Thirlmere Organ.  The pieces that John plans to play are designed to demonstrate the versatility of this new piece of kit!

Please let us know as soon as possible if you wish to come – then we can make plans for the catering.  And oh yes, bring a friend, the more the merrier!

So, if you fancy coming along please contact any one of the following:

John Comber [747447]

Steve Preston [747098]

Peter Voller [747374]

There WAS an A’MAZ’ING TEA PARTY AT THE MAZE

Gloria and Dennis invited you to an A’maz’ing tea party at the maze – and 15 of you turned up …

… including a man from Cuba who was visiting a friend in the village.

It was on Sat Sep 9, 2017 2pm – 4pm

It’s our campaign to restore Wing Maze and preserve our heritage.

You came with your secateurs, trowel, spade or any gadget to dig out weeds.

Tea and refreshments were on offer, plus an opportunity to enjoy the friendship that exists in Wing.

And we sheltered from the occasional shower under Gloria’s gazebo. Richard Tulloch, who was using a mattock(!) took all the debris away in his car.

“Following an invitation from Dennis and Gloria Whight to attend an “A’maze’ing Tea Party”, a group of dedicated Wingers turned out on a slightly damp Saturday afternoon to work on restoring the maze. Despite being regularly cut by the council, the maze had become rather overgrown and neglected. The working party dug out gutters, trimmed edges, pulled out weeds and washed all the paintwork to smarten up our village maze, all amply fed and watered by TeamWhight. Huge thanks to all those who turned out. ” Gloria Whight

Thank you all who turned out to help ( and those that wanted to but were unable to attend).

But if you missed it you can help by turning up at any time and doing a bit of weeding.

But we so enjoyed it we are convening again next Saturday afternoon at 2pm

It’s OUR heritage!
