Spring Gift and Food Fayre

spring gift

Things started to happen. Last Sunday a crack team of engineers set about erecting the Marquee for the coming weekends Fair. With little wind and no rain the job went very well and the lack of volunteers went almost unnoticed.

Some shots from the day before we opened to the public…..

And you all thought your correspondant was just a little old overweight bore. Little did you know of my tallents as a dancer as well!

The Raffle

We were very lucky with the weather, the day started out rather grim but by mid morning the Sun came out and the Wind had dropped. Suffice to say Doreen ventured over without her Nanook of the North hat on.

Little mention has been made to the sterling efforts made by Sarah O’Boyle to organise and co ordinate the fair. Proceeds will go into the hall running costs so the very least we can say is Thanks Sarah!

The Hall Funds are richer by nearly £200 and there is yet more in the pipeline.

Stop Press. Has anyone seen the treasurer?

WI Leics & Rutland Spring Council Meeting

The meeting was held at Leicester Grammar School, Great Glen and attended by members of most of the WI’s in the counties. Wing WI was represented by Gloria Whight, Ann Thompson, Ros King, Jane Gilmour and Judith Oakley.

Singlies Lunch 14 March

There was a Lunch laid on in the Hall on Sunday for those residents who lived alone. Your correspondent was present as a side line from writing for the Guardian and because it was thought I looked a little peaky and in need of nourishment. Joanne Beaver did the tricky bit, the cooking, while the rest of us concentrated on what marks to award. The panel were Cynthia, and her friend Margaret from Uppingham, Doreen, Allan, the new villager from the bungalows. Cyril invited Roger the Plot as his friend and at 13:00 Z sharp, we were away. The meal was pronounced a success with full marks awarded and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed mine. On the menu was local Rare Breed Pork generously supplied by Pheasants Roost of Manton. As you would expect from our Blue Riband chef, there were all the trimmings. The main meal was followed by a choice of sweets, A rich chocolate gateaux, a healthy fresh fruit salad and a delicious crumble.  Those that didn’t attend missed a treat. Avoid dissapointment, get your name down for the next one!

Pork Lunch

Margret, Cynthia and Doreen being delicate eaters were coming in last.

What we all enjoyed.
